The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is located South of Luton airport a distance of 40 miles that would take around an hour by taxi via the M1. It is located in southwest London and forms part of Outer London having a population of 187,500 according to 2011 statistics.
The borough was formed in 1965 with the merging of the boroughs of Barnes and Richmond. It has a long history and was named after Richmond, Yorkshire, from which Henry VII drew his title of Earl of Richmond. The area is best known for Hampton Court Palace the renowned playground of King Henry VIII and Richmond Park used to be Hunting ground of Charles I. The districts within the borough include Richmond, Kew, Barnes, Ham, East Sheen, Teddington, Whitton, St Margarets, Strawberry Hill, Mortlake, Petersham, Twickenham, Hampton Hill and Hampton.
There are many cultural and leisure activities on offer in the area, the London Wetland Centre is a great place for families and has over 40 hectares of created wetlands, Twickenham Stadium provides Rugby and Music, Richmond Park is a ideal place to cycle or walk and there are boat trips available along the River Thames. There are many historical buildings and stately homes to visit aswell as Museums, Parks and Open Spaces.
